Intimate Family Adventure on the Sweeping Hillsides in San Francisco

SF, I love you.

If ya’ll didn’t already know, I love San Francisco; it’s one of the few cities outside of Southern California that I would consider moving to. Some of Trevor and I’s best friends moved there over ten years ago, so we would visit them frequently and eat all of the amazing food and go to a handful of different new nature places each time, and eventually we developed favorites that we couldn’t miss while in the city. Being a photographer, I have a running list of locations that I either want to visit or want to photograph people at! Find a new location I want to go to? It’s going on my list, duh. I have been wanting to photograph someone on these hillsides for FOREVER! So I was beyond thrilled that my former bride (and friend!) Lexie is now living in SF after moving from Philly so she can get her masters in science— how badass is that? We were able to schedule a session for her cute little family around golden hour, but being San Francisco, the weather shifted super quickly and became incredibly windy, freezing, and dark af faster than we would have liked. It’s pretty obvious that I favor golden hour lighting, but there’s something about gloomy / overcast light that can make photos extra special and magical. Lexie originally packed a picnic for their session but we were fighting for our lives with this wind and decided that wouldn’t be enjoyable and made the most out of our time together by having her, her husband and son cuddle close together on a blanket and running around the hillside to stay warm. Sounds kind of perfect, right? These are my favorite kinds of sessions because they aren’t posed and they are all about connection between a family instead of between the family and the camera + I think that’s beautiful.

I love the grainy + filmy vibes of them, what do you think? If you’re looking for a Northern California Photographer, I have a running list of all of the best places to elope or have an adventure session. Once you hire me, I’m more than happy to help you plan the perfect location for your dream session or intimate wedding! If you want to check out more of my favorite images from Lexie + Kyle’s San Francisco family session, you can find those here. I’m always down to chat about all things San Francisco :)
